The J.F. Johnson Lumber Company
Is a stocking yard of I-Joist and
LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) Products.

We have on staff a full time design team who are able to design and cut your floor system packages. Our designers, located in Edgewater, are available to answer all of your questions. We also have access to the area's best sources for roof trusses. The suppliers we deal with have representatives available to look over your plans and make sure you're getting exactly what you want.

I-Joist

THE STRENGTH IS IN THE ENGINEERING
Georgia Pacific I-joists are engineered to start straighter and stay straighter. Longer and stronger than traditional solid sawn lumber joists, they have more load carrying capacity.

WI and GPI joists are very uniform. They are manufactured without camber, so there's no chance of crown down or upside-down installation. And they resist shrinking, twisting, warping, and splitting for squeak resistant floors and quality roofs and ceilings. In addition to standard applications, WI and GPI joists can be used for cantilevered joists in balconies, cathedral ceilings, high pitch roof framing, and expanding conventionally framed construction.

SAVE TIME AND MONEY
Because they weigh less than solid sawn joists WI and GPI joists are easier to install, saving you construction cost and time. Their greater load carrying capacity allows you to space them farther apart, so it takes fewer to build the average floor. And with four depths available from 9 1/2" to 16", you never have to compromise your design. So no matter what your plans call for, WI and GPI joists are the perfect choice.

  • THE GEORGIA PACIFIC JOIST ADVANTAGES:
More uniform strength, stiffness, size, weight, and appearance
  • Less likely to shrink, twists split, or crown
  • Lightweight, easy to install
  • Long length capabilities of 48'
  • Accepted by major building codes
  • Quick and convenient, OSB rim board is precision cut to match our 9 1/2", 11 7/8", 14", and 16" WI and GPI joist depths.
  • 12-ft. lengths mean your Georgia pacific engineered floor system goes together even faster.
  • Eliminate inaccuracies and time involved ripping plywood rim boards.
  • High load capacity means squash blocks are unnecessary on most multistory story applications.
  • Flat surface means easy fastening for siding.
  • Dimensionally stable oriented strand board is an exact match to I-Joists depths.
  • OSB rim board is manufactured using predominantly fast-growing trees, a renewable resource that leaves our old-growth forest for future generations to enjoy.

FOUR SERIES AVAILABLE
Georgia Pacific offers four series of I Joists to meet every residential and light commercial construction need. All feature strong, stable oriented strand board webs. The 90 series are made with LVL flanges that have visually graded spruce-pine-fir flanges, and the 40, 60 and 80 series has flanges constructed from strong kiln-dried solid sawn lumber stock.

OSB RIM BOARD
An exact match to our I Joist, FiberStrong OSB rim board is a strong, cost-effective compliment to Georgia Pacific’s engineered floor system. WI & GPI Joists and LVL beams offer many advantages for your building needs. Now OSB rim board completes Georgia Pacific's floor system package with an easy, reliable way to finish off floor and roof installations.

A SMART CHOICE FOR THE 21st CENTURY & BEYOND
The OSB webs in our Georgia Pacific Joists are engineered primarily from plentiful, fast-growing trees. So when you use them instead of dimensional sawn lumber, you're helping to reduce our country's dependence on old-growth forests. Like all Georgia Pacific's engineered wood products, Georgia Pacific Joists make the most sensible use of our precious forest resources. And that makes them an environmentally sound and cost-effective alternative for your building products.

DESIGN SOFTWARE
We use Georgia Pacific’s fast beam Design engineering software to give you complete in house design capabilities. We can give you accurate designs for a wide variety of applications with printed or plotted drawings.

LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY
Georgia Pacific gives you a limited product warranty for the life of the structures you design using WI & GPI Joists. So, you can feel confident that Georgia Pacific joists are free from defects in material, workmanship, and design.

LVL (2950 Fb-2.0E

LVL: BETTER THAN TRADITIONAL SAWN LUMBER
Laminated veneer lumber is an excellent choice for beams, headers, or other primary load carrying members. It gives you more design freedom because it's manufactured to be thicker, wider, and longer than solid sawn beams. Using ultrasonic veneer grading and selection, they have removed many of the flaws found in wood. Problems like twisting, splitting and checking are drastically reduced so there's little waste on the job site. LVL delivers consistent, reliable performances time after time.

ENGINEERED FOR STRENGTH
By combining exterior adhesives and ultrasonically graded veneers, Georgia Pacific has created an exceptionally strong engineered product with more load carrying capacity per pound than solid sawn lumber. LVL has all the advantages of wood, with no major strength reducing defects. It's easy to work with, saving you money and time. It has a high allowable bending stress and is available in long lengths and a variety of depths for every job. Georgia Pacific’s LVL is easy to cut and nail with regular tools. Plus LVL has evaluation reports from ICBO, SSCCI, BOCA, ICC and all major building codes.

AN ENVIRONMENTALLY SMART CHOICE
LVL is made from wood: a renewable resource-and that makes it a better choice for building.

LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY
Georgia Pacific gives you a limited product warranty for the life of the structure you design using LVL. So you can feel confident that LVL is free from defects and material and workmanship.

Trusses

From a simple garage or shed to a 10,000+ square foot house to Hip, Room in Attic, Dual Pitch, Flat, Vaulted, Cathedral, or commercial applications, J.F. Johnson Lumber can supply all your Roof Truss Packages.

Before your trusses are built, you will receive a drawing of each truss as well as a complete roof drawing to review. The best time to catch any thing or make changes to the design is while it is still on paper.

Why use Trusses

In most cases a trussed roof is faster, easier, and stronger than one stick built. Saving time in installation equals saving money and getting the project under roof and out of the elements faster. The average truss is made from 2 x 4's saving money and lumber over conventional framing of 2 x 6's, 2 x 8's and larger lumber.

With a rare exception trusses are designed to bear on your exterior walls only. This provides you with unlimited design options for the interior of the building as you do not need "load bearing" walls inside.

If your plans don't call for trusses, our designers can review them to see if they can be trussed.
